What this tool does
Video to GIF turns a short section of a video into a looping animated GIF directly in your browser. Privacy and processing
The conversion runs on your device. Your source video is not uploaded to Promptbox, which is useful for private clips or material that should remain on your computer. Processing time depends on the clip length, frame size, frame rate, and the speed and available memory of your browser.
How to get a smaller GIF
- Trim the clip to the shortest useful moment.
- Crop away unused edges and reduce the output width.
- Use a moderate frame rate; many reactions look smooth at 10–15 frames per second.
- Reduce the color count when photographic detail is less important than file size.
Example and limitations
For a three-second product demonstration, select only the action, crop around the product, and export at a smaller width. GIF does not preserve sound and is less efficient than modern video formats, so longer or high-resolution scenes can become very large. If the result is intended for a phone, consider compressing the original MP4 instead of converting it to GIF.
Common questions
Why is my GIF larger than the video? Modern video codecs reuse information between frames, while GIF stores a much less efficient sequence of images. Why do colors change? GIF supports a limited palette, so photographic gradients may be simplified. Can it loop automatically? Yes, the exported animation is intended to repeat. For the clearest result, preview the exact crop and timing before exporting.
